Several caves in the Carta Valley region were hypothesized to have hypogene origin on the basis of the geomorphology, speleothems and mineralization, although the structural control of the upwelling deep water and the role of the local stratigraphy for the speleogenesis are not clear. A new geologic survey was performed in Deep and Punkin Caves Nature Preserve with the aim to better understand the relationship between the speleogenesis, the local stratigraphy and the tectonic settings. a Network of temperature, pressure and humidity dataloggers was built and installed in the Deep cave starting from November 2025. The preliminary data and air circulation models will be presented.
